Chapter 5

Prayer and pondering the scriptures help prepare us to receive the influence of the Holy Ghost

1 Nephi 11:1: When we sit and ponder on the things that we have learned it is as if we are relearning them. Beacause when we ponder them we allow the spirit time to teach us what we need to learn from that passage of scripture or that talk. When we ponder it gives us time to sit and feel the spirit to have it wisper great knowledge to us and also it gives us a chance to learn great things that we wouldn't have if we didn't take that time to ponder.

2 Nephi 4:15-16: When we ponder about the things that we have learn it is a time where we have the opportunity to remember the things that have been taught to us. and if we are able to remember the things that are taught to us we will then be able to teach others and thus further progress the work of the lord. Also when we are able to remember the things that are taught to us we are better able to shape our lives to follow those teachings and thus live in the way that the lord would want.

We must seek to obtain the word.

D&C 11:21: What i learned from this scripture is that we need to study and learn the teaching of the gospel before we can go and teach others the gospel. If we take the time and learn all the things of the gospel we will have the lord with us when we go out and teach his children. Also we will have the Holy Ghost with us and he with open up the hearts of those who listen to these teachings so that they may be edifyed and so that they can come unto him.

D&C 42:14: What i learned from this scripture is that we need the Spirit to with us to be able to teach the Gospel. Without the spirit we won't be able to teach what needs to be taught and thus we will not be doing what the lord wants. But when we want the spirit we need to have faith in that the spirit of the lord will be with us and that the spirit will help us teach and that the spirit will also open up the hearts of those we teach so that they might be able to be taught.

We obtain the word by study and by preparing to teach the restored gospel.

D&C 88:118: What i learned from this scripture is that we need to seek out as much knowledge and wisdom about the lord and his teaching. And with this knowledge we are the then take it and teach the children of god.
